A poor orphan girl named
Was to market one day
She for to rest by the roadside

A few moments till she saw it
For it's feathers were covered sand
But soon and wrapped it

She happily gave her peso
On a cage of rushes and twine
She fed it corn from the market
And watched it grow with time

Now the Christmas Eve service was

And all of the town folks brought

There diamonds and incense
And perfumes in fit for a king
But for one ragged in a small cage
had nothing to bring

She waited till just before
So no one see her go in
And crying she knelt by the
For her was unworthy of Him

the Lord spoke to her through the darkness
"Maria, brings you to me
If the bird in the cage is offering
the door and let me see"

she trembled, she did as He ask her
And out of the cage the bird
up into the rafters
On a wing that had healed as new

Just then the midnight rang out
And the bird started to sing
A song that no could recapture
beauty was fit for a king

Now Maria felt just to listen
To that of notes sweet and long
As her offering was to Heaven
By the very nightingale's song
